I got my Mild/Moderate Special Education Credential from California State University, Monterey Bay with the idea of becoming a Resource Specialist or Reading Teacher. Little did I    know that my background and a valid California teaching credential would allow me to gain a job as an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. After working for several years and learning on the job, I wanted to ensure that my students were getting the most highly qualified services and decided to return to Fresno State to get my Education Specialist Credential and Masters Degree in Deaf Education. After getting my Deaf Education Credential and Masters Degree I felt like I needed to pay it forward and decided to volunteer with Peace Corps in Africa. I spent 1 year in eSwatini (formerly Swaziland), Africa and worked and lived at the High School for the Deaf. While there, I    helped to create an Individualized Education Plan for each student, worked with teachers to improve their understanding of sign language, Deaf culture and Universal Design for Learning as well as focused on literacy.
